    Autism

    2016

In order to better understand the living environment of people with autism themselves and to also cultivate more understanding, Richard Westerhuis made Autism, a series of portraits of residents and caretakers in an assisted living project. He found a group of people who may be more themselves than you and me. People who do not need an addition or artifice from the photographer to get to their inner core. During the recordings they remained themselves; they didn't really care that there was a man with a camera in front of them: They are who they are, thinking their own thoughts.
